All About him
Otherwise known as Neptune, this mythological ancient Greek god ruled the sea with his trident. His parents were Cronus and Rhea who gave birth to him among their six children, who were also gods. His siblings consisted of his brothers Zeus and Hades and his sisters Hestia, Hera and Demeter. Poseidon is usually seen as a tall strong man, with a white long curly beard and hair. He was also married to a nymph and sea goddess, Amphitrite, with which he had three children with.
Symbols
He would use his trident to stir up the sea when he was angry or upset. This would cause everything from rough waters to earthquakes to tsunamis. His emblem is the horse, because legend has it that he created the first horse. He deeply wanted his sister Demeter, so in an effort to put her brother off and to give him time with his mind off her, she asked him to make the most beautiful animal the world has ever seen. To try and win her over he did and he created a horse and Demeter's plan worked; Poseidon's feelings for her had cooled down.
personality and Appearance
This man of the sea was know to have a bad temper and always getting his revenge. He also was quite moody and very greedy always wanting more land, more power, more everything. He was a very tall and brawny man, with a white extensive curly beard and cascading hair. To get around he would be seen riding a golden chariot being drawn by dolphins and always carrying his weapon the trident. Poseidon feared Zeus's thunderbolt because as we know water and lightning or electricity do not mix very well together.
Family
Cronus the god of time and Rhea the goddess of motherhood gave birth to six children including Poseidon. These children were:
- Zeus the god of the sky and all other gods
- Hades the god of the underworld
- Poseidon the god of the sea
- Hestia the goddess of hearth
- Hera the goddess of marriage and head goddess
- Demeter the goddess of all fruits, grains and grasses
Marriage
Poseidon and his wife Amphitrite goddess of the sea three children:
- Triton a merman sea god
- Rhode a nymph Aegean island of Rhodes
- Benthesicyme a nymph of Aithiopia
